Issue#148904: Intel - Boxed Skylake Core i5 6600, no thermal paste ?!

  • Today I bought a Skylake Core i5 6600, boxed. The box does not contain thermal paste nor do the installation instructions mention thermal paste. Does that really mean thermal paste is not necessary?

I read in another thread that the thermal paste is already attached to the so-called thermal solution that comes with the CPU. And in fact there is something on the surface of the cpu cooler that looks

like 3 stripes of hardened gum. Is this the mordern form of thermal paste?

  • Issue#195459: Notebook - T420 Thermal Paste Issue/Replacement Tutorial

Hi everyone, I purchased my T420 about a year ago, and did some stress testing when I got it. The temperature was at a stunning 96C with prime 95 running. I thought of it as a cooling design flaw and left it for about half a year idling around 60C and heavy load around 85-90C. If you have some similar temp under stress, then please think about replacing your laptop's thermal paste because they are very badly applied and probably some really cheap paste. In my case there was way too much... T420 Thermal Paste Issue/Replacement Tutorial

  • Issue#254879: Hardware - Intel Skylake vCore fluctuation - mobo issue?

Hi folks, I'm administering a new system that's showing intermittent stability issues. The specs are quite basic: i6-6500GA-Z170-HD38GB DDR4 (Kingston) in dual channel config240GB Sandisk Ultra II SSDAsus GTX960 Strix w. 4GB VRAMAntec Truepower Classic Gold 650W PSU I originally thought it might be a software or overtemp issue, ruled out the first and did some system monitoring for the second. So, that's how I found out that vCore is fluctuating across about a 0.5V range from about 0.59V up to about 1.1V. Just wanted some confirmation on my thoughts that this is well out of the normal band in which case there's probably (definitely) something wrong with the voltage regulation on the mobo. The range seems excessive and the frequency of the oscillation is wild - screen shot of the monitoring below: Thoughts? Attached Images

  • Issue#834111: Ubuntu - Dell xps 13. core i7 skylake with intel hd graphics

Hello everyone ! I am running ubuntu 16.04 with kernel version 4.4.0. I would like to understand why at my native resolution (3200x1800) most of the UI is sluggish. When I resize a window, it is considerably laggy for example. I made sure the intel drivers were installed. I tried disabling vsyn. And I managed to fix the screen tearing by adding a conf file. When I set the resolution at 1920x1080. Everything is smooth, resizing windows is not a problem ( yes this is my benchmark aha ! ). I find it even weirder that when I tried windows 10 while receiving the machine, everything is so damn smooth.... So I know this is not a hardware issue. Basically, how do I get the same performance on linux ? Thank you all !

  • Issue#867867: Lenovo - Yoga 2 11 - Driver Issue - Intel Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework Manager

I have done a clean install of Windows 10. In Device Manager all drivers are present except for the Intel Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework Manager (see attached picture). There are three other drivers present for DPTF, but the DPTF Manager has issue. If I double-click on the entry, a message displays saying the device cannot start (error 10) and the process hosting the driver for this device has terminated. I have tried updating the driver to no avail. I have also downloaded the DPTF driver from the Lenovo website. However, when I try to install it a message displays saying the Realtek bluetooth device will not work on this version of Windows. For information, every chipset driver reports this message on installation.I would be grateful of some help to get the driver for DPTF Manager installed/working. Before the clean install of W10, I am pretty sure all was OK with DPTF drivers.Hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thank you.

  • Issue#928658: Intel - No compatible HD530 drivers Win10 32-bit with skylake core i3 6300

No compatible HD530 drivers for combination of Win10 32-bit on  Asrock B150M-ITX motherboard with skylake core i3 6300. None of the supposedly Win10 capable drivers will install. Only Win8 driver gets installed by Windows 10: Version With this driver, I am not getting Display Audio to function with HDMI connection (to TV). Honestly, I have tried all the drivers in the Intel list, and all return a "incompatible" message. Looking at the readme files, it looks like they forgot to include i3 6300 in the list of acceptable CPUs. I can live with the old driver, if I could get HDMI audio to work, but why is there not a new driver that will install easily. Or is there something I can do differently.

  • Issue#1518: Intel Skylake for HTPC?

Dear all - need your advice o upgrading my rather old HTPC. I currently have an Intel Core i3 CPU with HD 4000 integrated graphics, and at some point I also added AMD R7 250 fanless card to improve video performance a bit. I did not want to go for any higher quality descrete GPU as it would require large case, more powerful PSU, more noice to deal with. Now I want to simplify my setup, change the case to a fanless one, and move back to intagrated graphics and currently looking at Skylake's HD 530. Do you think it will work well for my HTPC? Any issues that I need to be aware of? Any opinion will be highly appreciated. For reference - I use HTPC mainly for movies (Full HD, 3D) and music, no 4K (do not have a required TV), no gaming (have a Playstation 4 console). My media player is Jriver with Red October enabled, which from experience gave me the best audio/video quality and functionality, so I am not ready to change.

  • Issue#8728: Geforce - Scalping the intel Skylake processor (win or fail?)

Yes, 200 to 250 degrees C will destroy the CPU. The pathing and internal structures of that CPU are tiny - TINY. And, what will you secure the CPU to while you are working with something that hot and that small? I have read that others have de-lidded that CPU and got no better overclocking results and some got worse. This is not a 3770K you are planning to work on. On some motherboards, I have seen it on a Gigabyte Z170X-UD3 I believe, you can easily change the bus or BCLK to 200 instead of 100 and use half the CPU multiplier, in this case 24 to reach 4.8GHz and get a slightly higher overclock or more stable overclock at 4.8GHz, just remember to properly set your memory speed as well. In any event, I wish you good luck in whatever you do.

So what do you guys think about HP's refreshed Skylake 13" ultrabook? I'm looking to buy an i7/8GB RAM/256GB SSD/QHD+ model because it's much much cheaper than the new Dell XPS 13. The Dell would cost me € 1400 after discounts and the HP would cost me € 980 after all discounts. That's a major difference for pretty much the same specifications and weight. I do worry about HP's quality down the road though, mainly cooling. Anyone here plan on purchasing this model?... ENVY 13-dXXX INTEL Skylake Notebooks (2015)
