  • Issue#20: Tableau - Aggregation issue

Hello all, I just want to begin by saying how much this forum has saved my job! Thanks everyone! I am having an issue getting my values to aggregate properly. I have attached two pictures below to help explain:BEFOREAFTERThe problem is that when I remove a dimension, the values are not aggregating properly. Each Facility and Cost Center should have 1 App attached to it and taking away Summary Pay type should not aggregate those Apps. Once I take away Cost Center, then they should begin to aggregate. I can use MAX() but then it keeps the same value when I get rid of cost center and I would want that to be Summed. The end goal of this is to track Dollars/App By facility and able to drilldown to cost center, then summary pay type and another layer of fidelity that I may add in. Thanks!

  • Issue#2876: Tableau - Using Parameters and Calculated Fields to Categorize Filters

Hello, I seem to have run across a rather unfortunate issue.  We have created a dashboard in which we have effectively categorized our quick filters via parameters and a CASE statement to call fields dynamically to act as a filter.  Unfortunately, filters within the same category (while the function of the filter is retained) do display only relevant values, as selected.  Is there any advice? As an example of my groupings: Academic Structure (Parameter):     College (Filter)     Department (Filter)     Major (Filter) Student (Parameter):Admission Type (Filter)Fee Residency (Filter) Each of the filters are a case statement of the parameter to allow us to dynamically choose and categorize the individual measures.   Variables within each of the parameters, however, show all values, rather than only relevant values.  Is there a way to make it display only relevant values?

  • Issue#28293: Tableau - Built-in Hierarchies and Parameters

I'm attempting to user a parameter to alter a view based on built-in hierarchies.  The parameter has two choices - Operational and Services.  If Operational is picked, the assignment hierarchy should be picked.  When I drag the built in tableau hierarchy into the calculated field, it does not bring the hierarchy into it - just the top tier.  The top tier does not expand in the view.  From what I've read online, it is how it works.  I just was hoping to confirm either way.  If I am mistaken, I'd love a quick run down on how to do it as I can't find it.

  • Issue#61787: Tableau - Relative date on parameters

Hi, I’ve created two parameters : start date and end date. I had to show a period and the same period last year. For instance, select Dec 2015 and show Dec 2014 as well. This is done but I have a problem. I need to establish a relative date and filter always by the previous month. Now this is done manually. Do you know any way to establish these parameters as relative dates ? Many thanks, Maria.

Hi All, I want to ask how we can combine sets with parameters that can choose a measure according to our needs. I attached a dummy workbook, hope it can help. From my workbook, I need [% Coffee] to filter by [Coffee Drinker] sets, [% Herbal Drink] to filter by [Herbal Drinker] sets, [% Tea] to filter by [Tea Drinker sets] and [% Milk] no need to be filtered. Thanks Randy

Hi All, I have Tableau Server version 9.2. Data sources are extracts and MySql data connection. I have 3 backgrounders. The system is of very high configuration (64bit, 32 Gb RAM, 7.5 TB memory). MySql Db is on different server than Tableau (which is also with good config) Sometimes there seems error as Lost Connection-com.tableausoftware.nativeapi.dll.TableauException: [MySQL][ODBC 5.3(w) Driver][mysqld-5.5.39]Lost connection to MySQL server during queryin background status of extracts although the refresh extract query is not heavy and executes in seconds. When I look at show processlist there was no memory issue/lock or anything during the execution. Also the system memory on both the servers seem fine too during the error time. I have seen in some threads where it is mentioned that the backgrounder restart itself in some interval. Is that true?  I am getting this issue in this version only. Din't get in previous version. Also, not every time same extract gets fai

  • Issue#84459: Tableau - Dashboard Action - Missing Target Fields in Hierarchy

I have a dashboard with two worksheets: (1) shows a hierarchy of general ledger rollups (6 levels in total) with actual revenue/expense compared to budget and forecasted amounts (2) shows a trend of the selected GL rollup.  The first worksheet only shows a single month at a time and the second worksheet shows a trend of that data over 3 years. I created an action on the first worksheet that filters selected fields in the second worksheet because I can't filter the data on all fields because that would filter date (since it needs to show trend, but the first worksheet only shows 1 month). My problem is I get the "Missing fields on [Worksheet]" error at the bottom of the Edit Filter Action window because I need to filter all 6 levels (Category1, Category2, etc...). The category fields are in a hierarchy, and the worksheet defaults to showing the first 2 levels. Users can drill down further if they want to. For my action to filter the 6 levels, I get the error for the fields tha

  • Issue#128795: Tableau - DateTime, Parameters, KPI

Hi All- I'm looking to use the 'Late?' KPI to mark when an Employee punches in after the time indicated by the parameters. I'm currently using this calc (this is the closest I've come to solving my own problem)if datepart('minute', [In Punch]) > [Punch In Minute Limit] then 'Late' elseif datepart('hour', [In Punch]) > [Punch In Hour Limit] then 'Late'else 'Early'END However, it is giving me 'late' results based on only the minute datepart.Example: Employee 110877 punched in at 5:38 am which is well before 8:30 am but is being counted as late. Thank you in advance for any help!

  • Issue#130177: Tableau - Use filtering while maintaining Hierarchy

Hello,  I have a hierarchy/dimensions of Company Name, Location, Office Number, Sales Agent. I have one measure of Sales Dollars. I am trying to obtain a list of agents that meet a certain criteria, as defined by filters/parameters on measures. I would like to obtain all sales agents who made less than $50,000 in a given period. So I set up a basic filter and that works fine. Now, I want to use my hierarchy, and aggregate up at the Office Number or any other level. But when I hit the minus button ( - ) along the top, Tableau sums up the Sales Dollars, and I lose my list altogether.   Example, If office A has 2 agents, who made $49,000 in sales, I would see the following: Office NumberSales AgentSales DollarNumber of RecordsABCJon$49,0001ABCMary$49,0001  I would like to be able to aggregate this, to see Office A, 2 agents, Sum(Sales) = $98,000. Desired output: Office NumberSales AgentSales DollarsNumber of RecordsABC$98,0002  &

  • Issue#131748: Tableau - Aggregation Issue (Part II)

Hello all, Some time ago I was having an issue with my data due to the level of fidelity it was being joined on. I've since gotten a solution for it which can be seen in my attached work book's calculated field. I have an incremental ask to this issue now. Now, I am able to aggregate properly by pay period but When I try to sum up the year, it is aggregating only the values that are there instead of by the cost center. Example attached. When you remove the Pay Period pill, each value on the stage should be the same as long as it's in the same cost center, regardless of the pay type or job class. QA: The sum of A Cost Center 6000 should be the ball park of 8563. Thank you!

  • Issue#145507: Tableau - Hierarchy with multiple Measurements

Hi,my client has a very inconvenient Data Set tracking different posts found online and identifies different topics. These topics are 'flags' so if it contains that topic it gives it a 1 else a 0. There are multiple different topics which creates a data set with over 1700 columns (and 100.000 rows)! The request from the client was to create a hierarchy of this, so you could drill down; Topic 1 - Topic 1.1/Topic 1.2/Topic 1.3 - Topic 1.1.1 etc. However - one post/row can contain multiple topics so one row has several 'flags' and it need to count it for each Topic. The solution I know will just count one of the topics, as in assign the first topic available to that row/post. I have attached a Dummy Data set of how it looks like. I have tried to duplicate it but only with 30 columns. I have recommended the client that this is not a good data structure and that it would need some work but they are a bit hesitant and I am myself curious if there is a way to solve this. I hope I exp

  • Issue#147004: Tableau - Applying filters on Parameters

Hi, In the attached workbook, I am using “Select City”, “Select Radius” and “Year” as parameters. The flow of the filters/parameters is as follows: First I select a county, then I select a city (for example Hopkinton -1), residing in that country. Then I get a list of records in map and table. To filter further, I give a radius of about 500 miles. After adding this filter, it will show only those records which are 500 miles away from Hopkinton-1. Now I can filter these records based on their year of expiration which is again a parameter. Now I want to add vacancy and Organization filter for the radius and year filtered records. After applying 500 miles filter I get Hopkinton, New York and Washington records. However, when I apply the org filter and check only test1, I get Austin as output, while it should be only New York and Washington.  I tried to create vacancy and org to be as parameters, but I got stuck with formulas. Can any

  • Issue#151327: Tableau - How can I disable the hierarchy in a table with multiple fields?

I have a table of students taking four types of advanced courses.  I need to show the number of students whot took and did not take each type of course independent from the other types.   How can I create this table.  Attached is a sample of what I want to get and a sample of the table I get with the automatic hierarchy that Tableau imposes.   Can this be done?

  • Issue#168595: Tableau - Suppress nulls in hierarchy...

Hi Everyone, I was able to create an org chart hierarchy from a self-referencing database table and it is working great.  The only thing I can't seem to figure out is how to suppress nulls from showing up on lower levels as I traverse the hierarchy. For example:Person A reports to Person B who reports to Person C who to Person ZPerson D reports directly to Person Z The data in the table I created:Person A Record:  Level 1 = Person Z, Level 2 = Person C, Level 3 = Person B, Level 4 = Person APerson D Record:  Level 1 = Person Z, Level 2 = Person D When I expand the hierarchy to Level 2 I correctly get:Person ZPerson CPerson DBut when I expand the hierarchy to Level 3 I start getting nulls padded below Person D:Person ZPerson CPerson BPerson D<null>Expanding to even lower levels of the hierarchy replicates the <null> values downward:Person ZPerson CPerson BPerson APerson D<null><null> Is there a way to suppress null values f

  • Issue#174951: Tableau - Rank calculation issue

Hello Friends,Quick question here- On the attached, I'm trying to display the top N customers based off my parameter "Top Customers 1". Everything seems to work correctly until I begin to filter my view. • Issue#185647: Tableau - Dates Issue Aggregate and Non-Aggregate Arguments

I took over a few reports and have been checking them over.  They used  IF [Cont Begin Date - Formatted]< Date(‘2/1/2016’), that being the date of the source date, which is a manual pull.  I would like something similar to  IF [Cont Begin Date - Formatted]< MAX([Date of Action]), MAX([Date of Action]) would return 2/1/16 as there are actions every day.  Of course this won’t work since it is doing aggregation and non-aggregation.  Any ideas on a work around?   Desktop 9.0 and sample workbook attached.    Thanks

Hi All, I've a small issue with SQL server impersonation configuration. To give the details, I'm using live connection to a MS SQL Server Database in one of my workbooks (published with impersonate via server run as account) and the tableau service account has db owner permissions to that database. When I grant a user access to that database, his access to the tableau workbook on the server works fine. However when I remove his access to that database on SQL Server, he is still able to access the workboook. Pls let me know if this is a limitation or am I missing some setting anywhere.
