  • Issue#684577: iPhone 5: Screen black, logic board overheating. back-light filter issue?

Hi there, First time posting but long time browser of your Forum and site. Great work. I have an Iphone 5 recently purchased. It does not turn on even when I use other screens that have been proven to work on another Iphone 5. It does not have any water damage. I have tried to use other batteries but still no luck. It also appears not to be charging properly and I have used a new charging dock as well. When I plug the phone in with my charge cable. after maybe 20 or 30 minutes Itunes SOMETIMES picks it up but an hour will pass later and the battery will still show 0% on Itunes. However, EVERY single time the board will get REAALLYYY really hot. way hotter than it ever should and the heat seems to come from under the plate where the screen connectors are on the front of the board. I have read that heat could come from a short but I am unsure if I have one. I recently took that sticker covering the backlight filters off and had a look under my microscope but I am unsure if

  • Issue#1523: iPhone 4: iPhone 4 is working but screen is black?

so yesterday i dropped my phone and it was working fine when i picked it up to check it,, a few minutes later the screen goes black. it was still working because i was receiving phone calls and texts and mail, i even took a picture with it. i tried to hold the home and lock button, i tried holding the lock button while constantly pressing the home button, but i think the problem with this is that my home button barely worked when my phone did work anyway. i tried to reset it AND put it in dfu mode. nothing is working :( note that i cant take it to the shop because its jailbroken ⟐ Commented January 24, 2016 at 2:51 am -0700

  • Issue#2665: iPhone 4S: Black Screen and lock button not working... What should I do?

Hello! Today my iPhone's screen just turned off and doesn't seem to work. I believe it's a software problem, so I thought the best idea would be to force a reboot (you know, holding the lock and home buttons at the same time). But I do not have a lock button since it has been broken for some months now. What can I do? Any tip on how to drain the battery of the iPhone as quickly as possible? I have started to send Messages from my Mac because that way it will be forced to emit the notification, but this could take hours. Thanks for your help! • Issue#3204: iPhone 5s: iPhone 5s: Apple logo and then black screen - after screen replacement

Hello, I have an iPhone 5s that goes to a black/blank screen but first the Apple Logo comes up. I replaced the screen on it, I've done hundreds of screen replacements before without a problem. I'm always careful with electronics since they tend to be very fragile (anti-static wristband and no metal tools). I tried searching up the issue on several other forum with no luck, I figured I could give it a shot to see if anyone else has come across this. The iPhone doesn't go to DFU mode or recovery mode, it simply reboots back to Apple and then to black/blank screen. I tried forcing it to DFU mode with RecBoot as well without a luck. I'm assuming it's a board issue but wanted to know if anyone knew what I would need to replace. I'm comfortable doing SMD and good with a soldering gun. The display comes on fine, it's not faded or lacking brightness so I doubt that it's the LCD capacitor but I really don't know. Hopefully someone can help with this very weird problem. Thank you for your time!

  • Issue#4910: Why does my iphone 6 keep shutting down to a black screen whenever I close down the main screen

This started two days ago. I went to store and he performed a hard start. He said when the phone detects a problem it won't continue to charge, and the phone shuts down. He started it up and it was fine until this morning. It was difficult to hard start, but finally it came on. I turned on the screen lock to save remaining power, but when I went to check it, I couldn't turn it on again and had to hard restart.

  • Issue#8752: iPhone 5: iPhone 5 screen is black but my computer can still see it.

Is my iphone 5 worth fixing? Phone is on and responsive to home and sleep/wake buttons but no display and screen wont respond to touch. I already tried holding the home and sleep/wake button for 10-30 seconds, restoring phone, and even opened it up to see if the LCD and digitizer cables were just lose. unfortunately nothing has changed. When i hold down the home button i can hear siri beep and the phone plays music when i plug in headphones and press play on the headphone controls and Itunes sees it just fine.I want to know if its worth it to buy a new front LCD for my phone or if it could be something else. Thank you in advance! I really cant afford a new phone and need it for work. ⟐ Commented January 26, 2016 at 9:01 am -0700

  • Issue#24301: iPhone 5: Black screen, keeps vibrating w/ power cable

Hi, I replaced the power button flex cable on a iphone5 because the button was not working anymore. Put the whole thing back together but it won't turn on anymore. Nothing happens when I hold the power button. When I put it on the charger it starts vibrating every few seconds but still nothing happens. When I plug it into the computer, my computer does recognize the phone but still it keeps vibrating and won't turn on. I had a spare battery so I tried replacing that, same thing. Does anyone have any idea whats up? ⟐ Commented January 29, 2016 at 12:08 am -0700

  • Issue#37075: iPhone 6: Black screen, backlight problem?

I recently dropped my iphone 6 in the sink briefly. It was water damaged as the LCI shows red. I can still charge it; see it in iTune; and if I shine a flashlight on it, I can see the display, but the screen appears black without light. Does it mean backlight fuse is burned? If so, I don't think I can do it without some real fine tools and micro scope. How much would it cost for the repair shop to fix it? Thanks. ⟐ Answered January 31, 2016 at 5:43 am -0700

  • Issue#39023: iPhone 5c: Screen bulging and now completely black

Hello I have an iPhone 5c, have had it about a year and the other day the screen went completely black and now shows nothing, as in it appears completely powered off, yet I still get sounds and vibrations as if the phone is on. The screen was pushed out of the frame in the top left corner and was starting too spread to the right corner, so I had a feeling it was the battery bulging. I have taken it apart and taken the screen off, but as far as I know the battery looks okay. Not 100% sure what too look for when it comes too battery bulges though. Anyone have any other ideas as too what could be causing this? Should I replace the battery, screen, or both?

First off I want to thank everyone for the help on this site. My problem happened right after I replaced the lcd on an iPhone 6. the screen is dark and I tried different screens even the original, still the same problem. when the phone is connected to power it intermittently vibrates, when connected to computer itunes picks it up but I cant access it because there is a passcode. I read about the longer screws damaging the motherboard and its not it (the shield wasnt on). I tried everything, even removing and re installing the board. same problem. I had a iphone 5s do the same thing and it worked after resetting the battery, this one has me stumped. Would appreciate any input, thanks in advance. ⟐ Commented February 5, 2016 at 2:13 am -0700

  • Issue#72324: iPhone 5s: Replaced screen, now blue screen and boot loop, no screw issue.

Hi there people, I have tried to search the forums here and after getting a new 5s screen from ifixit and making sure I watched the videos before attempting anything which helped as things changed since I had previously replaced two screens on my 4s I now have a common problem. I understand that the 4 screws for the shield are very specific and even went so far as verifying them with a caliper before reinstall, I now get about 15 seconds of the apple logo then a quick flash of a solid blue screen and then it all repeats again. I have verified that I did not damage the mobo traces as I put in my old ed screen and it booted up fine as normal and with the new screen again it keeps going through the boot cycle/ quick blue screen. Along with carefully making sure the ribbon cables were not tugged on or damaged along with the connectors themselves could this possibly be a DOA screen? I appreciate any answers regarding this from the helpful community. ⟐ Edited by author February 5, 2016

  • Issue#76322: iPhone 6: screen black and unresponsive but I can hear notifications

I got this iPhone 6 from the AT&T store a little over a month ago and I keep it in a lifeproof case. I haven't had any problems with it previously but while using it today, it just went black. I assumed it was dead so I plugged it in and nothing happened. I then took the case off and realized my phone was really hot. I let it be for a while to cool down. I can still hear notifications but the phone is unresponsive to the lock and home button. I tried to do a hard reboot by holding the home and lock buttons for 10 seconds but it didn't work. Any ideas on what's wrong or how to fix it would be infinitely appreciated.

  • Issue#154881: iPhone 5c: How do I get rid of the black hole on my screen?

So my screen was already a little ed but nothing was going wrong with my phone, so I just carried on. But as of yesterday, my phone got dropped and new s appeared, as well as a black dot (what I call 'the black hole') which is at the top left corner area of my screen. A few people have said it could cost up to $199 to get fixed. Some people said it was dead pixels, or the led lights went out, or it was oil?? Is there a way I could fix this without paying the money??

  • Issue#157330: iPhone 6: After screen repair, camera not working - Black screen

Hey all, So I've done hundreds of screen repairs. I currently work as a tech at a store but yesterday I came across a problem I've never encountered. Basically, after replacing the screen on an iPhone 6, the camera app no longer functions. You can open the app but the screen stays black and when pressing the volume buttons to take a picture, the app crashes. Now, we tested the phone before hand and the customer is adamant that the camera worked prior so it isn't an issue of miscommunication. I'm just trying to figure out why this would happen - back camera wasn't touched at all. Only the prox sensor/camera flex is touched in a replacement. Unfortunately, we don't have brand new parts in stock to test for the next few days but I was just curious if anyone else had ever come across this problem. Just as an FYI - we did try swapping out with used prox sensors, front screens, and back cameras in several variations and the camera still wouldn't load. Last resort is having the customer back

  • Issue#184730: iPhone 5s: My iPhone 5s is totally unresponsive, with a black screen.

Recently, my iPhone 5s started only charging intermittently, then not at all. I tried very hard to get it charging again, but eventually the 'empty battery' icon disappeared and the screen was left totally black. I have since replaced both the lightning port assembly and the battery myself (without obviously messing up, save tearing the TouchID cable), but have never been able to charge it nor seen anything other than a black screen, despite the new battery. I'm not sure whether I simply haven't fixed the initial problem, or whether I've managed to cause additional problems along the way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
