JXD 509G JXD509G 5.8G FPV With 2.0MP HD Camera High Hold Mode RC Quadcopter
I bought a JXD 385 a couple of years ago when I was flying Wltoys V202s and V252s and it was a good quad at that time that competed with the Wltoys quads well. It came with a transmitter that did not include autoflips at 100% rates like the V252 tx and had the same protocol as the Wltoys, so I used that transmitter for a while to fly the Wltoys quads. The 385 flew very well but did not have good LEDs for night flying. My 385 still works but all four motors have been replaced once. Banggood asked if I would like to review the JXD 509G, I said yes. This is only my second JXD quad. I recieved this quad on 2/01/2016 from Banggood. Good shipping time of only 14 days using China Post. You can find it here: http://www.banggood.com/JXD-509G-JXD...p-1001776.html
As mentioned in the other JXD 509 threads this quad copies the design of the Yuneec Q500, a larger quad that I am not familar with, but it has a very similar body design. The box that the quad is shipped in measures 380 x 214 x 128 millimeters. The contents of the box are in a styrofoam insert and seem to be well protected from shipping damage. The transmitter is in the bottom side of the foam and was a little difficult to remove because it fits tightly in that space. The quad comes assembled without the prop guards installed. It is a nice looking quad with a slender body and arms running the length from back to front motors, with braces from the body to those arms. The body is in an H configuration instead of the usual X shape. The camera is installed underneath betwenn landing grar that are a little longer than needed and seem a little too flexible. There are cones fully covering the gears underneath. A nice package. Banggood only has the 5.8ghz FPV version in black, I have seen a white 509 that only has a camera.

My Description of the quad
The JXD 509G has a diagonal motor to motor(MTM) measurement of 227mms. Without the battery or camera or prop guards, it weighs 121.0 grams. Camera weighs 12.3 grams, battery weighs 16.6 grams, prop guards weigh 9.0g, so all up weight will be 158.9 grams. The battery is a 1S 600mah with a jst connector and claims 30C discharge rate. It measures 45.3mm long by 25.0mm wide by 8.5mm thick. The battery tray could accept a longer battery but there is not much room for thicker or wider batteries. The plug for the battery in the quad is on a wire that is long enough to pull out so you can connect it with the battery. The battery door at the back of the quad is not very large and does not open wide, so it is a little difficult to put the battery in with my large fingers. There is an on/off switch so you can turn it on to bind with the transmitter. The battery as delivered measured 3.83 volts, a very good storage voltage. There is one LED above the main gear in each motor pod, blue in front and white in back. The gear covers dim the LEDs so they are not very bright.

The propellers measure 135.5mms in length and have a round shaped hole internally that mount on a steel tube prop shaft, then are secured with a screw. The gear shafts go through two bearings that measure 4x7x2mms. The motor mounts are built into the body. The motors face down with the gears on the bottom, but there is a cone shaped gear guard mounted with two clips and a screw that completely covers the gears from the bottom. The motors are 8.5x20mm a common size for geared quads. The main gears are on the bottom side of the of the motor arms and happen to be the same diameter as the original V929 gears, 19.7mm, but the V929 gear has a 3mm internal diameter. The pinion is nylon, 10 teeth, and has about a 3.5mm diameter. The gears come with a bit of some type of grease applied to them.
Attachment 8680842 Attachment 8680845
Four spare propellers, two mini screwdrivers-different sizes, an lcd monitor and mount, a bag of screws for mounting the monitor to the transmitter, and USB charge cords foe the battery and monitor are included. The kit also includes a 4GB memory card and a USB card reader.
The quad has 1 screw for each motor cover. It has 9 body screws in the central part of the body. There are 10 screws in the motor arms that hold the body together, and 2 screws to hold the landing gear on. There are also 4 screws holding the gear/motor mounts that can only be accessed by taking the main gears out. Each prop has a screw holding it in place. A total of 33 screws not counting the screws that hold the fcb in place. The prop guards slide and have two plastic clips to hold them in place, there are no screws. The camera mounts with two tabs that snap into place in slots on the bottom of the quad.

This quad is a little smaller than the Ni Hui U807. It is about 60% of the size of a JJRC H26W. First picture 509G and U807. Sencond picture is 509G and JJYC H26W.

The transmitter is similar in size to a Wltoys V2x2 transmitter. It has 3 speeds controlled by the top left shoulder button. It has short sticks, not thumbpads. It has an 5 blue LEDs. There is chrome plating on the sticks, buttons, and around the stick domes. It has no LCD screen, just a sticker where the screen should be that reads 2.4 GHZ/HIGH AGILIY CONTROL. The fake antenna has two rings for mounting the monitor. The left stick is spring loaded to center rudder and throttle, when you let go of it the altitude hold is engaged. The buttons to either side of the LCD screen are labeled differently than the transmitter picture at Banggood, see picture below. The right shoulder button is for auto flips. The bottom left button is for starting and stopping the motors. After turning on the quad and transmitter, you must push throttle stick up then down to complete bind. Pulling both sticks to the lower left calibrates the quad. Pulling both sticks outside bottom stops the motors. The transmitter uses 4 AA batteries.

I flew it with the camera removed. It is a fairly quiet quad in flight. It has good power, but is not as fast in performance to a Nihui U807. The yaw rate is good but I did not notice a big change in yaw when switching rates. Being all black with black props did not help me with orientation, and the lights do not help much in daylight. I stopwatch timed a 6 minute 50 secons flight indoors with only about 10 seconds to land after the lvc lights start flashing. The battery discharged to about 3.3 volts at rest-a little low. I used my pro charger to recharge it and have not tried the stock charge cable yet. The battery door does not open far enough, making access to plugging in the battery and inserting it a little difficult for someon like me with large hands and fingers. Indoors, it held the altitude fairly well on the first flight. It was stable enough not to need any trim.
Because of windy conditions, the second flight was also indoors. This time I had the prop guards installed. I am not sure what caused it, but as I was about to fly through a doorway, I pulled the throttle stick down, and it dropped from a height of about 6 feet. 3 of the prop guards came off in that slightly hard unplanned landing. If you want to fly with the prop guards on, you should consider using something to secure them to the motor pods better. Picture below.
On the third flight I flew it in what was probably between 5 and 15 mph hour winds with some slightly faster gusts. However, for most of that flight I flew behind a wind break. It does not make very good headway against that much wind, I do not think it has as much forward pitch as some of my other quads. It will do a funnel in a 3 to 4 foot diameter. It will do flips with no more than a 3 foot loss of altitude, it gains a foot of altitude before it flips. I also tried turning the transmitter off, and within 2 seconds, it slowed the props and landed itself.
The altitude hold feature seems to work fairly well, it holds fairly steady and never seemed to vary height more than a couple of feet. That could be a very helpful feature for FPV or for using the camera for videos or photos.
It was a little hard for me with my big fingers to get past the door to plug in the battery.
The camera is a 5.8ghz fpv camera that transmits to the included monitor. It transmits at 5645Mhz, the same as the original V696G so I can use the home made goggles I made for my V686G. The monitors are almost the same, with a few minor differences such as the antnna and the location of the charge port, see pictures. The camera is mounted to the bottom of the quad. It has a rather large ball that houses the lens and can be adjuxted up and down about 25 degrees. The adjustment seemws to be about level with the quad in a hover, I would prefer a little more upward adjustment for forward flight. There are 3 wires coming from the camera that plug into the bottom of the quad. There is another socket on the bottom of the quad for a wifi camera. There is also a slot for the provided 4GB micro SD card. The monitor has a screen protector on it that has to be removed before use. The screen of the monitor appears to have an anti-glare filter on it, see picture where I remove about half of the plastic film screen protector. The camera is rated at 2.0 megapixels and the monitor has a internal battery not described, so I don't know what size or if it is even a lipp-will have to take the monitor apart to find out.
Attachment 8680877 Attachment 8680860
I performed a range test on the fourth flight and the quad went down at about 700 feet. I could barely see it at that range. When I got to where I thought it should be, it took me at least half an hour to find it. It had landed in a hole that my dog dug a few weeks ago. The hole was about 1 foot deep and 1 foot diameter, so I had to be within 3 feet of the hole to find the quad. The gears and motors were covered with grit becasue of the applied grease. The grit had to have come through the top vent holes. It took me at least an hour to clean everything, and I removed all of the grease and replaced it with Tri-Flow dry lubricant. While I had the quad apart, I found it had a foil wrapped antenna and I stuck it out vertically through the side of the quad. The second range test with the antenna went even farther, but I had to land it before it lost signal because I couldn't see it well enough anymore.
The JXD 509G is a good looking quad that seems to be put together well. It has decent power and agility. It has LEDs that may help for night flying. Very good quad range out of the box, have not tested FPV range yet. It is not a fast and sporty flyer, but with the altitude hold it should work well as a camera quad, and could be a very good FPV trainer. My first 5.8ghz FPV quad was a Wltoys V686G, and my biggest problem with learning to fly FPV was keeping a reasonable altitude. This quad helps a lot with that problem by having altitude hold. I think it would be a very good quad for someone wanting to try FPV without spending a lot of money. I would rate it about a 6 out of 10 on my rating scale, where 1 is bad, and 10 is excellent.
Nicely built/good looking design.
Good funnels and flips.
Decent flight times.
Good altitude hold.
Very good quad to transmitter range.
Stable/easy to control.
Comes with bearings.
No bearings on prop shaafts.
All black with black props, not much help for orientation in daylight.
LEDs not bright enough to help in daylight.
Comes with grit attracking grease on the gears.
Prop guards do not come with secure attachment method.
Battery access a little restricted.
Thanks to Banggood for providing this quad for review.

One of the current hypes in cheap RTF "multirotor-country" is altitude hold. The idea is to make flying easier, as throttle control is one of the hardest functions to grasp, for fresh pilots. Another benefit should be, to have a more stable platform for shooting video. Will this work out as intended? A closer look at the JXD 509G might give some answers. This is the first micro quad I have heard of that has "High Hold Mode", what should be called altitude hold. When this quad was first released the camoflage version had "Stupid" printed on the top of it, now it has been changed to "Smart". You can still see Stupid on top of the camo quad in some of the pictures at Banggood. So the question would be: Is it smart or stupid.?:) I have had Cheerson products that are very good, and some that are very bad. Out of three of the first batches of CX-10s over 2 years ago, one is still flyable with original motors and a battery change, one of them did not last for two weeks, and one did not work right for two days. I have had other Cheerson products with similar results, though lately it seems like quality may have been improved. A small mico quad that would be called nano by some with altitude hold should be interesting. I recieved the Cheerson CX-10D quadcopter from Banggood on May 28, 2016. The quad was ordered a

This lessens the steepness of the learning curve and allows the pilot to enjoy flight while slowly learning each specific orientation of the quadcopter. Syma X8W also comes equipped with 3MP WIFI HD camera will have you capturing stunning photos from the sky and real-time images transmission (with your smartphone). Equipped with the latest 6-axis flight control systems, more stable flight! 360°flip wi

Issue#411454: Radio Control - Syma X5HC, Camera Quadcopter with Altitude Hold (Review, work in progress)
I've flown a few X5C clones, or quads that were "inspired" upon the Syma design, like BayangToys X8 and SJ-RC X300-1. But never "the real thing", until Tmart offered to send me one of the latest installments in the Syma X5 series, the X5HC. Can the original beat the clones? Let's have a look... Issue#432055: Radio Control - JJRC H28C With 2.0MP Camera One Axis Gimbal 2.4G 4CH 6Axis Modular RC Quadcopter RTF
This quadcopter was sent to me courtesy of Bannggood. Banggood ordered this quad for me on March 23, 2016, it shippedt on March 28,2016, and it arrived on April 4, 2016. 13 days from order to arrival, very good transit time. It was shipped using DHL and expedited shipping. I think Banggood continues doing a great job getting orders shipped lately IMHO. The box inside of the plastic envelope and foam was a little beat up, but the contents of the box were unharmed. The box measures 405 x 235 x 152 millimeters. Pictures: Attachment 8880426 Attachment 8880427 Attachment 8880428 Attachment 8880429 Attachment 8880430 First impression This quad is modular in design, the arms are easily removable so you can break it down for easier transport. I put the body, arms with props installed, and the transmitter in a normal sized shoe box. It is a nice looking quad, mostly black, with colored bands on each body arm that match the arm colors of the motor arms. Camera, prop guards, motor arms, and
I am using a Sony Super HAD CCD 600TVL board camera for my FVP and am running into an issue where when I power up my quad my camera will transmit perfect video to my goggles for 1-3 seconds and then it will cut to a completely black screen. It will do this every time I power up. If i plug in my back up camera I have zero issues. Has anyone ever experienced this? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.
These two multirotors just came out: the MJX X401H & MJX X601H. The first is a quadcopter and the latter is an hexacopter.
