Issue#82: Tableau - Put the table/view name in the View Data window when previewing the contents in a Data Source.

  • When previewing the data in a table/view in the data pane of a Data Source it would be helpful to have the name of the object being viewed in the title bar.

    Preview the table/view:

...and in the title bar put the name of the table/view that is being displayed:

When looking at multiple screens of custom SQL queries and bouncing between table/view previews I will sometimes draw a blank as to what table/view I'm previewing.  This is particularly helpful when I get pulled away and return to what I was doing as I would know right away what it was I was looking at before the interruption.

  • Issue#622364: Tableau - View Data Issue

I was using the view data option and when I clicked on underlying, I would see what I wanted to. (The underlying raw data that the summary is referring to). But now it shows the entire worksheet, even if I "keep only" the record I am interested in and then view data If I change that 596 value to 2, then it will just show the first 2 rows, not the rows containing the 2 jobkeys from summary. It's confusing because this was working the way I expected it to like 10 minutes ago, I'm not even sure what I could have changed. Thanks!

  • Issue#60: Tableau - How can I present weekly and monthly data on the same view?

This my first post.  I've searched high and low for a solution with no success.  Now I turn to the experts. I have three measures that I need to put on the same line graph: sales (monthly), contract values (weekly) and proposal values  (weekly).  I've run this set of data for over a decade at the monthly level.  Now the boss has asked that we look at contracts and proposals as a trailing 52 week average and 52 week sum.  We only invoice once a month, so that is as granular as sales gets.  When I try to plot the monthly data using weeks as the dimension, I get a stair step.  When I do a window sum, I get values that are 4-5 times the monthly value. I thought this might be a level of detail issue, but can not find any discussion of using it with dates.  Any thoughts on how I get there from here?  Thank you for helping a neophyte.

  • Issue#120055: Tableau - creating filtered and unfiltered components of a view through data duplication/ relationsh

Hello,I am attempting to create a dual axis chart with a filtered and unfiltered component through the method suggested my michel cassie in the following thread: Can i have a Dual axis chart but with a filter applied only on one?  In the attached example workbook, I have attempted to remove the department relationship between the original and duplicate data sets in order to enable filtering the bars (original data) by department while leaving the line representing moving average of profits of all departments (duplicate data) unfiltered. However, filtering still affects the moving average.  Would anyone be able to take a look and offer any suggestions as to why I have not succeeded in producing a moving average line that is not affected by a department filter? Many thanks,Zach

  • Issue#226984: Tableau - Resticting access to data on a public view

Is it possible to use User Filters to restrict access to specific data on a public view. We currently tend to create two views of our workbooks -one public the other internal. What I want to do to create one dashboard with a view that the public sees and then when a member of the organization logs in they can see additional detail. For example in the following dashboard I would like to restrict access to the Ethnicity and Plan data to an internal audience. I attempted to utilize User Filters, but when I do the quest looses the ability to see any of the table data. Although the construction is currently Hierarchical, I've also tried placing the fields in the workbook independently with the same results. Any ideas? Workbook: Enrollment_Maps

  • Issue#746258: Tableau - Help with Pivot Fields in Data source Window in Tableau 9.3

Previously, when I tried to Pivot the fields, it worked fine with no issues. But lately, I was playing with data source filters for a different data source. Later, when that was done, I tried to import an Excel file and Pivot the fields for a different spreadsheet I was working on. But, for some reason, after the Pivot, it wouldn't show all the data. In the attached spreadsheet, you can see demographics for Male, Female and Persons, but it only shows records for "Female" in my case, and the total number of rows as shown in the picture (After Pivot) is just 1000 which should be more than 1000 when you include Male and Persons. You can also see that the spreadsheet attached do not have null values either. I am not sure what is going on and had tried to look online for help but so far no luck. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks,Reshma.

  • Issue#31: Tableau - Creating a table calculation that sets goals to be 50% higher than the previous high value in data set

Calling all Tableau Experts! I have 10 months of data, January thru October. I’m trying to write a table calculation that sets a new goal for First Pass Yield that’s 50% higher than the previous high First Pass Yield monthly aggregate. That’s a bit of a mouthful, so here’s an example to better illustrate what I’m looking for (Reference the below table for the values I’m talking about):   First, obviously, January has no previous lookup value to measure against so I’m setting that Goal value to just be .5 (just so there are no Null values in the table calc). For February’s goal, the calculation should be January’s FPY actual plus 50%, which in this case would be 77.27%.      Goal % Calc = ((1-((Lookup(Previous High Value)))*.5)+(Lookup([Previous High Value)))  Now, because February’s FPY was lower than the first month, the goal would still be set at 77.27%. This trend conti

  • Issue#41: Tableau - How does Extract Filters and Data source filters vary the size of the Tableau Extract?

In Tableau 8.2 Data Source filters and Extract Filters used to work in the same manner. However in Tableau 9.0.4 both filters works differently.Extract Filter:As the name implies extract filters are used to filter out the data while creating the extract.Example: Let’s say we have database with the data for different countries as shown belowUSA –                    5000 rowsCanada –             2000 rowsIndia                      10000 rowsAustralia              1500 rowsIf we apply the Extract filters to bring the data only for USA (Country=USA), Tableau creates the Extract (.tde) just for the Country USA and ignore the data for all other countries.S

  • Issue#556: Tableau - Multiple Data Source Filtering Using Different Dimension than Parameter's

Hi all, I’ve got a dashboard that has numerous sheets on it from multiple data sources. I’ve used a parameter to allow me to filter across all the data sources at once. The problem is, the dimension that I’ve used for my parameter is a product code that people can’t use for searching. What they need to use is the product name, but this product name dimension is in only one of the data sources. So is there a way for the user to select a product name in a quick filter on the dashboard and have all the vizzes change, even though it's the product code parameter that's filtering all the sheets?  Thanks!

  • Issue#10493: Tableau - After publishing tableau server data source, the alias is no longer available and doesn't

This seems to be a bizarre issue I encountered today after publishing a data source to Tableau Server. While on my desktop I had an alias on a measure name. After publishing to Tableau Server, this alias disappeared (as expected). However, now I'm attempting to create a new measure with the same name as my alias, and it doesn't let me "A field named "X" already exists."   However there seems to be no way for me to access the previous alias in order to delete it. Anyone know how to workaround this issue?

  • Issue#19165: Tableau - Replacing data source lessons learned

Are there any good lessons learned on replacing the data source?  Every time I replace the data source, I keep having to manually copy over the calculated fields, groups and sets.  I also have to redo the alias.  My colors are also affected, so I have to reconfigure them as well. My question is:1.  Is there a more seamless process to replace the data source without having to manually copy and reconfigure?2.  If not, does somebody have a list of things that would have to be done manually, so that we don't have to figure it out when there is an issue?  Thank you

  • Issue#41991: Tableau - How to create a sub date range from an data source

I'm trying to create a parameter from a data source that is grouped by weeks (not days) until 9/1/15.  This is messing up my ability to create a functioning parameter, then filter for my sheet because Tableau isn't able to figure out if the number order correctly.  Is there a way to create a new date range that starts at 9/1/2015 so that my filters look normal and that  I can build off? example below:  As a result my filter numbers look weird:         Here's the formula I used to create the Calculated Field for Week ID:      left(str(datepart('year',[Date])*100+(datepart('week',[Date]))),4)+"-"+right(str(datepart('year',[Date])+(datepart('week',[Date]))),2)

Hello, I am using two excels; one is primary data source (Employee-Issues) and other is secondary data source (Employee-Data). I have built a tableau worksheet using Employee-Issues and then created a relationship (data blending) with secondary data source using employee id field. However, after creating set and calculated field I am not able to use that cal field in the filterI have also tried using IsNull in condition but it still shows upI have tried creating this formula:if ISNULL(ATTR([ClusterMapping (ClusterMapping)].[Cluster]))=FALSE thenATTR([ClusterMapping (ClusterMapping)].[Cluster])ENDbut it is throwing me an error: the "==" function can not be applied to table calculations

  • Issue#86442: Tableau - Date Calcs Using Months Without Data in Data Source

Hello-   Does anyone know how to get a date calc to work when referring to months without any data in a data set.  I need to calculate days remaining from each month in a monthly trend view to a 'goal date' that a user can select via parameter.  However, data does not show in Tableau for the months that have no rows in the underlying table.  Basic formula I'm using:  DATEDIFF('day', (min([Date Placed Months])),[Goal Date])I'm trying to get this to give me # of days between the first day of each month in the view to the Goal Date selected by user.  It works for months that have data, however it's blank for the months without data. Any ideas? Thanks,Danny
